Belotero Balance®

Belotero Balance® Chicago

Belotero Balance® is a type of dermal filler that is used to fill and smooth out mild to moderate wrinkles or skin creases of the face. It is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, which is a substance that is found naturally in the body and specifically the skin. Belotero Balance® is a great option for the tear trough or treatments underneath the eyes to improve depressions and signs of aging around the eyes. As a result of the product’s properties, it can be placed more superficial underneath the skin without being noticeable or lumpy. Therefore, it is ideal for areas where the skin is thin or where more superficial placement is necessary.

As we age, we show signs of aging because our skin and tissue thins and descends. As this happens, facial wrinkles, depressions, and asymmetries develop and become more noticeable. Signs of aging tend to be most apparent in the face, specifically around dynamic places of our faces, such as around the eyes and mouth. Dermal fillers have become increasingly common because they are non-invasive, not permanent, cost effective, and the recovery time is minimal.

Am I a Good Candidate for Belotero Balance®?

If you are unsatisfied with creases, discoloration, or bags underneath your eyes, then you may be a good candidate for Belotero Balance® filler underneath your eyes. Ideal candidates should be physically healthy and non-smokers. Before making the decision to have dermal fillers, you should schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery to make sure that this is the right procedure for your aesthetic goals. In some cases, another treatment option, such as fat grafting or another facial rejuvenation procedure, may be the best course for you.

What to Expect from Your Consultation

When you schedule a consultation with the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Chicago, you will meet with a board-certified plastic surgeon who will review your medical history and perform a facial balance evaluation to ensure that you are a good candidate for dermal fillers. Your plastic surgeon will discuss your treatment options with you and recommend the type of filler that best suits your goals.

How is a Belotero Balance® Injection Performed?

Belotero Balance® injections are non-invasive plastic surgery procedures and therefore can be administered in the office by a plastic surgeon. There are several types of dermal fillers, which range from semi-permanent to permanent and vary in softness and material. Most dermal fillers are made from natural substances found elsewhere in the body, or otherwise synthetic materials that mimic and stimulate the production of collagen in the body.

To administer Belotero Balance®, your plastic surgeon will mark the appropriate injection sites on your face and apply an anesthetic for comfort. Your plastic surgeon will use a blunt cannula to perform the injection around your eyes since there are important and vital structures around the eyes. A blunt cannula is safer than sharp needles, because sharp needles can inadvertently injury blood vessels, nerves, or other tissues. The injections take only moments and are relatively painless. The dermal filler is massaged into the injection site, and subsequent injections are made until results are achieved.

Recovery after Belotero Balance®

Recovery after a Belotero Balance® injection is almost immediate, as are the visible results. You may be given an ice pack to reduce swelling. The injection sites will likely feel tender for a couple of days after the injections, but are not typically painful enough to require medication.

With some dermal fillers, you may experience an “overfull” appearance in the treated areas, or hypersensitivity that may seem like an allergic reaction. These conditions usually resolve within a few hours. If symptoms persist, be sure to speak with your plastic surgeon.

Potential Risks Associated with Belotero Balance®

Complications from dermal fillers are very uncommon, but there are potential risks associated with any procedure. The risks involved may also vary according to the type of dermal filler used, so be sure to discuss this with your plastic surgeon during your consultation. The risks generally associated with dermal fillers may include:

  • Swelling and bruising at the injection site
  • Asymmetry
  • Lumps beneath the skin
  • Changes in skin sensation

Regardless of the complexity of the procedure, always ensure that your plastic surgeon is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and that the procedure is being performed in an accredited hospital, surgical facility, or medical practice.

How Much Do Belotero Balance® Injections Cost?

The cost of dermal fillers varies by several factors, so an average is difficult to ascertain. Your location, surgeon, type of dermal fillers, and number of injections required to achieve results will all affect the cost of the procedure. Dermal filler injections can range from $500 to $1000 per syringe depending on the product used and the site to be injected. Be sure to discuss costs with your plastic surgeon during your consultation.

3 month follow-up on this patient who wanted improvement in the projection of her chin and definition of the jawline. The patient has retrogenia or a small chin and underwent #chinaugmentation with a #genioplasty. In the pre-operative photos, you can see the chin is short and recessed and therefore I moved the chin forward and down. In the post-operative photos you can see improvement in the projection of the chin, a more defined jawline and neck, and a more balanced lower 1/3 of the face. This case highlights the advantages of a genioplasty versus a chin implant, a chin implant cannot lengthen and advance the chin to the same extent that a genioplasty can. Posted with permission.

A 1 year follow-up on a patient who wanted a rhinoplasty to remove the dorsal hump and improve the aesthetics of her tip. In this case the dorsal hump was removed, the nose made straighter, the tip refined, and the tip rotated and projected more. Her new nose fits her face without overtly changing the ethnic features of her face. Posted with permission.

Male patient in his late 60’s who was able to turn back the clock after undergoing a #facelift, #neck lift, #blepharoplasty, and #fattransfer. Pay close attention to the “bags” underneath the eyes, the jawline, and neck. The scars have healed nicely and are inconspicuous even with short hair. In the post-operative photos, the patient has maintained his natural facial features and anatomy, but just looks like a more youthful version of himself. Posted with permission.

#Primaryrhinoplasty to fix the dorsal hump, droopy tip, and crooked nose. In the post-operative photos, the patient has a nice dorsal profile on side view, the tip has been lifted, and the nose is straight. To evaluate how straight the nose is, look at the dorsal aesthetic lines on bird’s eye view and follow the two light reflexes along the dorsum. Posted with permission.

Relatively small surgeries can yield big changes. This patient wanted to improve the contour of her chin and the overall profile of her face. The patient’s lower 1/3 of the face and chin were short and set back. Additionally, the patient had asymmetries of the chin and jawline that she wanted improved. The patient underwent a #slidinggenioplasty to achieve these goals where the chin was cut and mobilized forward and downward. In the post-operative photos, you can see a more aesthetic and balanced facial profile. The advantages of a #genioplasty over a #chinimplant are that the chin can be moved in numerous planes, the advancement can be more significant, and asymmetries can be addressed. This patient had a bilateral constricted ear deformity where the top portion of the ear folds over the rest of the ear. In this deformity, the ear appears shorter in height and there are abnormalities of the outer and inner folds of the ear. In the postoperative photos you can visualize the ear is longer in height, the helical rim or outer portion of the ear is lifted up and the antihelical fold or inner portion of the ear is more defined.
